Why This World Feels Like a Simulation After a Near-Death Experience (NDE)
The soul vs. the avatar: navigating life after remembering the other side
Near-death experiences crack something open. People can come back with memories they canโt rationalize, clarity they canโt forget, and a strange new relationship with the physical world. For many, the return to โordinary lifeโ may feel somewhat “off.” Something feels artificial or thin, like waking from the most vivid dream into a dimly lit room.
For me, it was a feeling of, โThis world feels less real and more like a simulation.โ Prior to my experience, I had suffered from chronic sleep paralysis and hypnogogic hallucinations. This drove me to want to study my dreams, writing them all down in a journal and using a dream dictionary to interpret them. This led to a lot of lucid dreaming where I would interpret my dreams while dreaming them. However, after a near death experience, I started having the feeling that life operated in the same way…. even in the sense that I can get out the same dictionary to decode what is happening in reality to become more lucid. I have had those thoughts that maybe life is some sort of hologram, or at least, in the spiritual sense, it is a stage, a classroom, or a constructed field of lessons (not just personal ones but collective ones, as well).
One particular experience I had was that on the other side I realized reality isn’t solid. It could disappear like smoke. I even had the thought that I had everything backwards, that ghosts don’t walk through walls because they aren’t solid, they can walk through walls because the walls aren’t solid either. The first thing I did when returning to my body was touch the walls, to test to see how solid they were.
And, I’m sure this isn’t just reserved for people who have experienced an NDE. So, if youโve felt this, you are not alone. According to ChatGPT (which I used to understand my experience), hereโs why so many NDE survivors describe life afterward as simulation-like… and why that perception might actually be a sign of awakening rather than distortion.
1. The Other Side Feels โMore Realโ Than Earth, Which Reorients One’s Earthly Perceptions
People expect heaven to feel peaceful or even etherical. They do not expect it to feel more solid, more familiar, more โhomeโ than the physical world. Yet this is exactly what countless experiencers report:
- Colors are more saturated
- Thought and reality merge seamlessly
- Communication is instantaneous
- Identity feels whole, not fragmented
- There is no โlagโ between intention and manifestation
- Truth is felt directly, not interpreted
Compared to that, Earth can feel:
- muted
- dreamlike
- heavy
- slow
- glitchy
- constrained
Itโs not that Earth is fake, but that the “Other Side” is so real that it reframes Earth as a lesser-density environment, like entering a dimly lit room after standing in full sunlight.
2. The Body Suddenly Feels Like a Costume
After an NDE, the physical body can feel:
- too small
- mechanical
- heavy
- limiting
- unfamiliar
Like wearing someone elseโs coat that doesnโt quite fit. Many experiencers say, โMy real self didnโt fit inside my body anymore.โ This mismatch creates the sense that Earth-life is a form of role-playing or
avatar kind of experience rather than the totality of who you are.
This is one of the primary reasons the world feels simulation-like. You remember your consciousness existing independently of the body and functioning far better without it. For me, I also remember thinking how I couldn’t feel fear even if I tried. Instead, I felt this sense of expansiveness. I realized that the reason was because, without a body, I didn’t feel a charge of adrenaline. Coming back to my body, I was subjected to all those bio-chemical experiences (feeling disappointed I was succumbing to them).
3. Earth-Learnings Reveal Themselves as โScripted Experiencesโ
On the “Other Side,” lessons are understood instantly:
- why you came
- what certain challenges are shaping
- how your relationships support your growth
- where your soul is evolving
- what themes your life is working through
When you return, you can almost feel the architecture behind experiences and can experience how events line up with uncanny timing, the way certain people appear at key crossroads, the way synchronicity becomes the guiding language.
Life begins to resemble:
- a curriculum
- a storyline
- a mission
- a guided growth simulation
How I started to see it was like a script that I was writing where I had the outline written before I came. I knew what I wanted to experience and the relationships I wanted to engage in. While writing the book, however, things can change, the story can move in any number of directions or even the ending can be different. The more lucid we are writing it, the more we feel in control.
4. Thoughts Become More Potent, Making Reality Feel Responsive
After an NDE, many people notice:
- accelerated manifestation
- heightened intuition
- synchronicities clustering
- โknowingโ what will happen before it does
- feeling other peopleโs emotions more strongly
Though I don’t just think this pertains to NDEs but can accompany a spiritual awakening triggered by intense meditation, trauma, or other types of experiences. Such experiences seem to cause the boundary between inner and outer to thin. The world begins to feel less like a solid structure and more like a responsive dream. Not necessarily imaginary, but interactive, malยญleable, and energetic.
That responsiveness can make Earth feel simulation-like because reality starts behaving less like fixed matter and more like a conscious mirror.
5. You Remember the Feeling of Freedom, While the Earth Feels Restrictive
On the other side:
- you feel no fear
- you know without thinking
- you travel without moving
- you communicate without words
- you exist without effort
- you feel unconditional love without trying or thinking you have to earn the right
Returning to Earth can feel like:
- restriction
- compression
- sensory overload
- emotional turbulence
- being placed โback in the mazeโ
Itโs a jarring contrast, enough to make Earth seem like a temporary training simulation rather than your true home.
6. You Become More Aware of Programming, Conditioning, and โThe Systemโ
According to ChatGPT, people who return from NDEs often become highly sensitive to:
- societal manipulation
- psychological conditioning
- cultural programming
- fear-based narratives
- emotional control
- propaganda
- systems that suppress truth
- structures that limit consciousness
Once youโve experienced freedom at the soul level, you begin to see how humans are shaped by invisible forces:
- family dynamics
- trauma loops
- collective fear
- societal expectations
- survival pressures
- subconscious imprinting
This contrast makes Earth feel like a place where consciousness comes to experience limitation, illusion, choice, and awakening. These are the very qualities of a simulation designed for growth…..
