5 Tips for Getting Over a Romantic Obsession

A romantic obsession is an unrealistic attachment to someone who is not interested in you. If the other person has ended the relationship and you cannot accept that, your pursuit then becomes problematic.

If you’re trying to get over a relationship that has ended, the task is much more difficult if you’re obsessed with the other person. That means that you think about him or her all the time and fervently wish the you two were still together. Perhaps you’re even tempted to become a stalker!

If you’re in this situation, there are things that you can and should do to get over it. Here are five tips for getting over a romantic obsession.

1. Cut off all contact with your romantic obsession

If the other person has not already done this, you must end all contact. That means you should not meet the person, talk to him or her on the phone, or text them. Remove the person from your list of friends/connections on Facebook and other social media sites. Return all their belongings and take all your stuff back.

2. Curb your obsessive impulses

When you feel a strong impulse to get into contact with the object of your obsessive feelings, stop and think about it rather than acting immediately. Review the situation in your mind: that the other person ended the relationship and has made it clear that they won’t reconsider the decision. Think about the fact that your obsession with the person is impractical and is not contributing to your happiness or fulfillment.

3. Demolish your fantasy

Understanding that your obsession is based on a fantasy (you and the other person being together in the long term), you should question that fantasy until it crumbles. Think about the fact that the other person has rejected you. Recognize that your dream about being with them in a loving relationship is a delusion. Accept that their romantic interest in you has ended.

4. Grieve

When you have implemented the aforementioned three points and are beginning to feel somewhat less obsessive, allow yourself to grieve. Obviously, your relationship with the other person was important to you. However, you formed an attachment that was ultimately not reciprocated. Don’t spend too much time pondering about what went wrong or what you could have done differently. Instead, give yourself permission to experience the intense sadness that comes with the end of a relationship.

5. Get counseling

If the previous steps didn’t work and you are still absorbed in your obsession with the ex-boyfriend or ex-girlfriend, it may be necessary to seek counseling. This is especially true if you are finding it difficult to function normally. A professional counselor will be able to assess your condition and recommend therapeutic interventions.

A loving attachment to another person can be a wonderful thing. But an obsessive attachment to someone who has rejected you is a problem. Such an obsession burdens both you and the other person. Following these five recommendations will help you to overcome this obsession.

The Fruit

The Fruit

The fruit reveals the root — taste what was grown, and know what was sown.

This card invites you to become a sacred observer of the world — not to judge it, but to read it. Rather than using the Law of Attraction to manifest something new, you are being asked to use it in reverse: to explore what has already manifested and gently uncover the beliefs, desires, and energies that brought it into being — both personally and collectively.

Think of the world as a symbolic landscape, filled with the echoes of intention. Everything — the beautiful and the broken — carries a message. Each manifestation is a fruit that tells a story about its seed.

For example, consider the plastic pollution in the oceans — a human-created condition. What might it reveal about our collective values? What does our attachment to convenience or artificiality say about our relationship to nature — or to our own emotions, if oceans represent the unconscious self?

Rather than blaming or condemning, approach this inquiry as a sacred decoding process. You’re not asked to dwell in guilt — but to awaken from numbness. You are invited into a practice of Karmic Unweaving — lovingly tracing the threads of cause and effect back to their roots.

This process is about becoming more conscious, not more critical.
Keep a journal if it helps. Reflect on both the uplifting and the troubling aspects of the world as if they were metaphors speaking to you:

  • What do they say about what humanity believes, fears, or avoids?
  • What can they teach us about healing, growth, and conscious evolution?
  • The more clearly you can see the fruits, the more intentionally you can tend the next garden.

A Gentle Blessing for the Road Ahead
May your eyes be kind as they open wide. May you taste the truth with grace, and follow it gently to its source. And may you become a cultivator of more nourishing fruit — For yourself, and for the world you are helping to remake.

The fruit reveals the root—taste what was grown, and know what was sown.

This card invites you to expand your understanding of how the Law of Attraction truly operates. It’s not just about personal manifestation—it’s about collective impact.

Begin to notice how your intentions shape not only your own life, but also the wider web of reality. Something that benefits your personal world may, if echoed by millions with the same desire, create unforeseen consequences on a larger scale.

If you honor the Law of One—the truth that all is connected—then it follows that no soul incarnates to manifest solely for themselves. Every thought, habit, and choice contributes to the whole.

Also consider: not all manifestation is conscious. Much of what we “create” stems from less-conscious intentions—our routines, automatic behaviors, and alignments with people, businesses, governments, and ideologies. Even passive support becomes a thread in the great weave.

And most of all, remember this:
Action is intention in motion.
It speaks louder than thought alone, and its echo reaches farther.

Conflicts often arise when conscious values and unconscious patterns are at odds — or when our actions contradict our stated intentions, especially when it comes to manifesting more peace, love, healing, and reverence for nature in the world. The fabric of life is stitched not just with what we believe, but with what we do.

Everything you support, consume, depend on, or participate in becomes part of the tapestry. But this is not a call for perfection—it’s a call for awareness.

Step back with compassion. Witness the interconnected web you are part of — not to judge it, but to see where your thread can carry healing, balance, and change.

You are not just a consumer of the world. You are a co-weaver.

A Gentle Blessing for the Road Ahead
May your eyes be kind as they open wide. May you taste the truth with grace, and follow it gently to its source. And may you become a cultivator of more nourishing fruit. For yourself, and for the world you are helping to remake.
